Tony Hopkins...
Tony Hopkins
Strike Specialist
Tony Hopkins was a Mech pilot since his childhood. Growing up in the Outworlds
Alliance, Tony used to ride with his father in the family's AgroMech. Owning a
small plantation, his family raised him and his siblings to one day take over the
family business. Though Tony enjoyed his time in the fields, his mind wandered
often. He became rebellious, and decided he would leave planet as soon as he
could afford to. His parents were devastated, but they supported their boy in
whatever he decided to do. Tony joined the local militia and began piloting
BattleMechs instead of AgroMechs. His witty mind and fun loving nature
immediately attracted him to the faster smaller Mechs available in the militia.
Gaining a reputation for his speed and remarkable piloting, Tony soon purchased
his own BattleMech, a Hornet. The small nature of the Mech was beneficial to
Tony, and he immediately began customizing it. Though extremely expensive, the
modifications slowly began to transform the little Mech. It's speed dramatically
increased and it was soon known as the fastest Mech on planet. Tony began
fighting local resistances of the militia completely on his own. His Mech could
outrun any pursuers, while the upgrades gave him the firepower to wreak havoc on
enemy bases. Unfortunately, Tony's luck with escaping soon caught up with him.
After capture by guerrilla fighters, he was tortured senseless. Waking days later,
he was rescued by the militia and treated as a hero. His Mech was recovered, and
his reputation was at its peak. However Tony did not recover from his torture. He
showed no problems publicly, but his fear was so great he would not pilot his Mech.
His friend, Vincent "Viper" Thomas of the militia, began piloting his Mech
secretly for him in public. Tony finally gained the courage and the need to pilot his
Mech after 2 years. Vincent Thomas returned the Hornet to Tony, and Tony has
then returned to piloting anew for 3 years before joining a mercenary unit. His
skills greatly diminished, but his Mech had also been upgraded by Strider's
Strikers Clan tech. Tony affectionately called his Hornet "Hopkins" or "Hoplite"
after his father, Edward "Hoplite" Hopkins.
Tony was killed when Blakist death squads attacked the Strider's Strikers
command barracks. He managed to be on patrol during the attack, and records
show he bested 3 enemies before succumbing to superior enemy firepower. His
death was witnessed by Ryan Allen, a survivor of the attack. He was
posthumously promoted to lance commander of the reformed Strikers, a position
meant to display his unparalleled grace with small Mechs and their engineering.
