Von Sturmer is one of Acer's Hueys' most valuable assets. In his earlier days,
Von was considered by most of his teammates as an ideal commander. Though he
never commanded more than one lance on the small unit, Von has enhanced his
previous charisma and intelligence with a hard earned wisdom that could only be
earned with time. Both his genius IQ and unrivaled experience as a 'mercenary on
the run' seem to provide him with an almost sixth sense. He has been able to keep
his lance safe over the past years, never losing a pilot during a campaign. This
feat is almost unbelievable when considering the scout lance's hard-fought battles
within that time period.
Von's biggest loss over the years has been that of his girlfriend and lover, Ellie
Tressle. Shortly after the Hueys retreated from the public eye, Von and Ellie
developed a relationship. When things turned romantic, the couple eventually gave
birth to a son, Decker Tressle. Though they were never married officially, Von
and Ellie were open with their relationship. The two even lived together as a family
after the birth of Decker.
Disappearing during a typical weapons trade with members of the Explorer Corps,
Ellie Tressle's fate remains a mystery to this day. Despite his excellent abilities to
derive information, Von refuses to come to any conclusions about her
disappearance. It is widely known among the Hueys that the retired commander
and behind the scenes leader, the paranoid Ace Leghorn, believes Ellie was
captured or killed by Draconis Combine bounty hunters. Ace believes the
Draconis Combine's government will always try to destroy the mercenary unit
because of the Hueys' special knowledge about a Star League lostech Warship in
the Draconis Combine's Labrea system. Because this Warship has now come into
possession by the Hueys themselves while united with Strider's Strikers, Von has
doubts regarding Ace's assumption.
Von is finally beginning to show his age, but he is still as strict as ever about his
diet and exercise. He continues to be a physically imposing figure. On the
battlefield, his reputation is even stronger. Von has gradually become an expert
with his Mech's primary weapon, the LRM 15. Most of the Hueys joke that he
can steer long range missiles with his mind alone.
Von was shocked by the loss of his teammates while on Outreach. He has realized
how sacred his relationship with his son Decker is, and as a result he's now trying
to spend more time with the troubled young man. Von can see some of his own
strengths in his son. Unfortunately he feels Decker is weak in his outward displays
of emotion regarding the loss of Ellie Tressle.
