Warrior Summary:  Devon Carns, Data Entered November 7, 3062

Devon’s life started just like any other Trueborn Clan member.  Rigorous training and studies
began earlier than he could remember.  Throughout his youth, he excelled at everything he put his
mind to.
Early on, he showed a special aptitude to physical fighting.  He thoroughly enjoyed any type of
hand to hand combat and he slowly found that he could even fight his trainers.  As he moved into
Mechwarrior training, he also found he was suited to the intense life of a Mech pilot.  His skills as
a pilot were only shadowed by his individual fighting prowess.  In his Trial of Position, he was
able to best two enemy Mechs, securing his right to a slot as a Star Commander.
His first posting was on the Inner Sphere planet of Sawyer.  Even though he was too young to
take part in the initial push into the Inner Sphere, he was moved to a garrison post on the planet.
His first battle came at the hands of raiders from the distant planet of Wolcott.  A strike force of
2 battalions dropped on the planet to perform a raid in force.  As they closed on the planet, the
Nova Cat forces bid and Star Commander Devon won the right to launch a flanking attack on
the assaulting forces.  He took his small force of medium Mechs, led by his Stormcrow around
the side of the attacking force.
As the Kurita forces joined the battle, they slowly forced the Cats back.  Using mixed forces of
heavy Mechs and light, extremely fast hovercraft, the Kuritans whittled away the Nova Cats,
slower assault cluster.  Out of contact with headquarters due to extensive Kurita jamming,
Devon had no idea his unit was under such heavy assault.  By a stroke of incredible luck, as
Devon led his forces around the enemy lines, he stumbled upon a Kurita artillery company.
Easily dispatching the guard Mechs, a Panther, Dragon, and two Sentinels, he closed on the
artillery pieces.  Needing information, he dispatched two of his Mechwarriors to contact the
nearest Cat position.
After nearly an hour wait, just as Devon was getting too impatient and was about to recall his
units for an attack, one returned.  His Mechwarrior reported that the other Star member was
trapped by an Avatar and an upgraded Charger.  His light Cougar had tried to evade their heavy
fire, but he was slowly overcome by a massive volley of lasers in the cockpit.  He successfully
held the Mechs so Stirn’s Kitfox could make a mad dash towards Devon’s position.  His report
was that the Kurita units were forcing the Nova Cat cluster back and would soon trap them
against the sea.  They needed immediate support or they would be utterly annihilated.
The Kurita forces had a solid chance of retaking a world they were just trying to raid.  Devon
saw his chance to use the enemies equipment against them.  He had his men dismount from their
Mechs and redirect the artillery pieces.  After they were ready, he left Stirn in command of the
captured pieces, under orders to wait for the signal to launch an artillery bombardment.  Devon
and his two remaining warriors took their Stormcrow, Adder, and Mist Lynx and closed on the
enemies rear positions.  Just as he was closing into firing range, he opened communications with
the enemy commander.
“Enemy commander, this is Star Commander Devon of the Nova Cat striker Star Gamma.  You
are surrounded by my units and will suffer heavy casualties if you do not stop your assault and
return to your Dropships at once.”
The enemy commander replied back, “Star Commander, if your assaulting force was more than
three light Mechs, I would consider your message as something more than a bluff.  An unworthy
tactic for a honorable Clan warrior.”
This comment obviously had the intended affect because Devon was furious.  He immediately
contacted the commander and said, “You will eat the words you have uttered, I will meet you on
the field of battle”.
The enemy commander ordered his forces to hold the rest of the Nova Cats at bay while he
disposed of the nuisance in the rear.  He brought his Atlas assault Mech around and began
bearing down on Devon’s Stormcrow.  Devon knew that in a heads up fight, he couldn’t stand a
chance.  He especially realized this when the silvery streak of a Gauss rifle ball slipped past his
cockpit.  This tore him out of his momentary lull and he rushed into the thick of it.  Using his
lighter Mech’s incredible speed, he bore down on the heavy enemy.  He knew that with the
enemies long range rifle and missiles, he had to close it up and bring his powerful pulse lasers to
bear.  Taking a hit from enemy missiles, he peppered the enemies right torso with pulse laser
blasts.
A hit from the enemies Gauss rifle nearly sheared off one of the Stormcrow's arms, but by some
great feat, Devon kept his Mech upright and pummeling the enemies torso.  Slowly the layers of
armor fell away under the furious onslaught of pulses.  Finally, after receiving massive damage to
his center torso and losing his right arm, he penetrated the Atlas’s ammo bin.  The bins remaining
ammo exploded in a massive blast, severing the arm and damaging the Atlas’s engine.
In the process, the blast knocked Devon’s Mech clean off its feet.  The landing crushed even
more of his armor, thinning out the remaining torso armor and destroying more weapons.  The
canopy of his Mech even blasted out, blowing shards throughout his cockpit and gouging Devon’
s side deeply.  Blood began flowing swiftly from the wound but he knew that if the Atlas wasn’t
finished yet, he had to do it quickly.  As he slowly rolled his Mech back to a standing position,
he found a charred visage staring back at him.  When the Atlas’s ammo went up, the panels for
the Mechs CASE blew out and most of the explosive force was directed away from the delicate
internals.  For some unknown reason, not all of the blast was directed through the rear of the
Mech.  The death’s head faceplate on the Atlas lived up to its name, scorch marks lined the eye-
like windows and the cockpit inside was burned to a crisp.
Obviously, the Kuritan commander was dead, his Mech standing like a statue on the battlefield.
After the initial shock of his exploits, Devon realized the time was ripe to turn the tide of battle.
Opening his commline to all Mechs, he announced, “that was your one and only warning, all
Mechs, attack!”  Immediately after this, he called in his artillery barrages.
The effect was perfect.  When the beleaguered Nova Cat Mechwarriors on the other side of the
battle heard this commanding voice, they rallied and threw all their weight against the Kuritans.
At almost the same time, the beginnings of the artillery barrage began rolling along the rear lines
of the enemy Mechs, tearing armor away and even destroying a couple straggling heavies caught
in the center of the blast.  The Kuritans, startled by the artillery at their back and hard pressed to
keep the Nova Cat forces from blasting through their lines, began to pull back.  Slowly they
made their way off the field, and even though the Cats had an obvious mental advantage, they
held their ground because the Kuritans still held a sizable numerical advantage.
As the battle wore down, the Nova Cat forces were recalled and the clean up began.  Also, the
struggles of Devon were  just beginning.  Some of his fellow Mechwarriors lauded his
