    Retired Commander

Ace Leghorn is a very different man from his first days with the Explorer Corps. After forming his own unit in 3022 known as Acer's Hueys, Ace learned the dangers of the mercenary business the hard way. He and his unit faithfully sided with their home nation during the Fourth Succession War, protecting what they could from the Davion forces that were invading the Capellan Confederation in 3028. While Acer's Hueys survived the war and met future success within the Capellan Confederation, the unit was nevertheless destined to suffer from great loss.
A partnership with another small mercenary unit known as Llana's Breakers ended in tragedy and betrayal by the two team's employers in the Draconis Combine. Among the Hueys, it was Ace who suffered the most. He had not only lost his entire partnered team to a pirate ambush, but he'd also lost his romantic partner Llana Huxley herself.
It was not long after the Hueys and Breakers were betrayed that Ace began his new goal. Hiding vital information whose importance was such that his entire unit might be destroyed, Ace broke his contract with the Kuritan employers and made his way outward across the Capellan Confederation. He contacted friends in the Explorer Corps and plotted out a new home, one in the Periphery which offered safety from any Draconis Combine attacks. Knowing full well the value of his small unit's knowledge, which included the actual coordinates of a Star League era lostech Warship, Ace made it his duty to protect every member of his team for as long as he had the ability to do so. His clever mind slowly eroded under his newfound paranoia however, and it was only with help from his own teammates that he was able to maintain his sanity. Much of this was caused by the loss of Ellie Tressle, one of his oldest pilots on the team and a close friend. Her apparent death after disappearing during a regular supplies pickup left Ace all the more paranoid. The disappearance also caused him to only hire the most trusted of allies onto his team. As a result the team has never grown since its misfortunes of 3039.
Ace and the Hueys kept private for nearly 25 years. During the latter part of this period, they finally returned to their home nation and settled on the world of Brisbane. Ace found emotional help in Dr. Suzy Evans, one of the original founders of Acer's Hueys. In Suzy, he also found a new romantic interest. The two's love eventually gave them a son, Merrick. Merrick has been trained from birth to take over the position as commander of the team. Merrick's early approach to Mech piloting and constant training under both his Mechwarrior parents has led to incredible skill.
Ace is an important player behind the scenes. He leads Acer's Hueys more than anyone realizes, including himself. He accepted the aid of Strider's Strikers in exchange for sharing his information on the lostech Arbiter Warship. The exchange has proven fruitful for his team, which was able to return to Outreach and get reinstated with a new mercenary license.
Though Ace is no longer active in the unit as a Mechwarrior, he researches every contract the Hueys consider. He has become close friends with several members of the Strikers, and the recent carnage wrought by the Word of Blake against the unit has caused Ace to question the limited partnership. Ace is considering combining forces with his new allies, a move he hopes will strengthen his team after the loss of four of their pilots during riots on Outreach.
